We’re pleased to announce the newest recipient of a CLNZ Partnership Fund grant. Playmarket has received a $3,000 Partnership Fund Grant.
Playmarket has received a $3,000 Partnership Fund Grant towards their publication of Two Verbatim Plays: The Haka Party Incident and Transmission. The Partnership Fund is open throughout 2022 and we’re actively inviting expressions of interest that align with our objectives for the Fund.
The Playmarket project will publish two critically acclaimed plays, The Haka Party Incident and Transmission together in one volume as part of Playmarket’s Play Series. Both plays are verbatim theatre works, using documented words of real people to explore real events.
The Haka Party Incident by Katie Wolfe (Ngāti Tama, Ngāti Mutunga, Ngāti Toa) reckons with the 1979 performance of a mock haka by University of Auckland engineering students, and the subsequent challenge to those students by activist group He Taua. Dialogue is from interviews with He Taua activists and engineering students. Transmission by Stuart McKenzie focuses on the first days of Aotearoa New Zealand’s COVID response, distilling interviews with the politicians and scientists charged with shaping the response.
Playmarket is publishing Two Verbatim Plays in association with the Whitireia Publishing Programme. Students on the programme will project manage and edit the publication which is due for release in November.
