If you’re about to undertake research for a writing project – whether it’s for a fiction or non-fiction work – then take a look at the CLNZ/NZSA Research Grants. Applications open 19 June and close 31 July. Here are five things applicants need to know about the grants and the application process.

  1. The dates to mark on your calendar are:
    19 June: applications open
    31 July: applications close
    28 August: recipients will be announced
  2. There are four grants writers can apply for:
    Three Open Research Grants of $5,000 each
    One Stout Research Centre Grant of $5,000 – this grant includes a six-week residential fellowship at the Stout Research Centre (SRC) at Victoria University of Wellington, to be taken during October and November 2015
  3. The Selection Panel will favour projects of national or significant local interest or that add significantly to the field or genre on the subject
  4. To be eligible, you must be a New Zealand citizen or have New Zealand Permanent Residence, and be a writer of proven merit
  5. Applications will be judged by an independent panel of three people from the NZ literary sector
